3D Scanning + Industrial Photogrammetry

Photogrammetry is not a new concept; its history can be traced back to the 1850s. After years of development, photogrammetry has been used in various fields, including 3D scanning. Because 3D data is stitched together using markers, features, or textures, there will be some errors during the stitching process. Although these can be optimized through various algorithms, in the 3D scanning of large-volume objects, errors accumulate with the increasing number of stitching operations.

To solve this problem, researchers have introduced photogrammetry. Before acquiring point cloud data through 3D scanning, images are taken to obtain the spatial framework position of the workpiece (and the size accuracy of this spatial framework is optimized using the reference information of the scale). This provides a reference system for data stitching, improving the overall dimensional accuracy of the scanned data.

What is the basic working principle of a three-coordinate measuring machine?

Any shape is composed of three-dimensional spatial points, and all geometric measurements can be reduced to the measurement of three-dimensional spatial points. Therefore, accurately collecting the coordinates of spatial points is the basis for evaluating any geometric shape.
